OARDC Farm Operations

 

 

                                        Services provided by Farm Operations
 


1. Planting and harvest of crops and forage for use as animal feed for animal departments

2. Providing extra labor to department farm operations for peak load or temporary labor shortages.

3. Removal and spreading of livestock manure from OARDC animal facilities on the Wooster campus.

4. Trucking livestock, grain, hay, feed , machinery or other items that require a large grain/livestock truck. The driver can be provided by the department requesting the service or from Farm Operations personnel.

5. Maintenance and repair of agricultural equipment.

6. Tillage or other soil preparation for research areas and harvesting of salvage grain after research plot data has been collected.

7. Building or modifying agricultural equipment for specialized research tasks.

8. Building and repairing fences and gates outside of buildings.

9. Providing tractors, wagons, and other support for field days, tour groups, etc.

10. Purchasing and maintaining an inventory of hay and bedding as required by the animal sciences departments.

11. Producing composted materials from animal waste and/or yard waste for use on OARDC land.

12. Removal of snow and ice from campus streets and parking lots.

13. Purchase and maintain an inventory of agricultural fuels and lubricants for use by research departments.

14. Management of equipment and supplies at the Central Pesticide Storage Facility.

15. Maintenance of OARDC barbecue unit including cleaning, service, and gas refill.

16. Daily weather observations as required by NOAA Weather Service and by OARDC research staff.

17. Purchasing, receiving and distribution of seed, fertilizer, and pesticides as requested by research departments.
