Annual Report Instructions

1. Access the http://www.oardc.ohio-state.edu/research/ web page.

2. Scroll to the box that reads CURRENT RESEARCH INFORMATION SYSTEM (CRIS)

3. Click on the submit AD-421 option.

4. This will load an OARDC page with three options.

Instructions to submit AD-421.

Checklist for all OARDC projects listed by department.

Data entry from the CRIS Forms web page.

5. Individuals may find it helpful to read the instructions but those eager to enter their report should click on the data entry from the CRIS Forms web page option.

6. The option to get the progress/termination form is located near the bottom of this page. Click on the AD-421 Progress/Termination Report Option.

7. This will display a map of the U.S. with a request to select your state territory or USDA agency/function for AD-421 forms. Click on OH.

8. This will load a page that will request the site where your information is to be collected. TEAL is the password to be used.

9. This will load a page that requests the name of the investigator. After the investigator’s name is entered the project (s) for that individual will be displayed. Proceed to display the CRIS form and scroll down to the space to enter your progress report and publications. For the researchers with more than one project, complete a form for each project.

NOTE: You may wish to enter your progress report into a word processing program, spell check, edit, and then copy to the clipboard. Once the CRIS form is displayed simply paste the report into the space.

The instructions offer the advice for the report narrative. CRIS strictly limits the narrative to 3200 characters, and cannot accept any characters not found on your keyboard. Do not use degree symbols, math symbols, Greek letters, italics, boldface, super- or subscripts, or underlines. Do not include tabs or indents nor other text formatting. Also, the question mark (?) should not be used because it means something else to the CRIS computer.

Only include publications for the current reporting period, and only published works (journal articles, published abstracts, books, book chapters, and theses - NO talks, NO presentations, NO newsletter or magazine articles). Do not enter authors in all capital letters and do not number the citations.
