The Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) of The Ohio State University in Wooster, Ohio has created an exciting opportunity for high school and undergraduate students. It has established a summer OARDC Research Internship Program (ORIP) targeted to provide research experiences for incoming junior and senior high school students and undergraduates. The goal of this exclusively faculty-driven program is to substantially expand research opportunities to area students and to significantly enhance their interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by inculcating critical thinking skills through rigorous laboratory and field-based research experiences, seminars, group discussions and symposia.
There are over 70 scientists at the OARDC engaged in various projects which range from applied field-based research to fundamental investigations in biofuels, molecular and cell biology and engineering. OARDC scientists lead international genome sequencing projects, collaborate with NASA scientists, develop new technologies, and publish their findings in world’s most prestigious journals including Science and Nature. Scores of graduate students and post-docs work in various laboratories contributing to the various facets of agbiosciences. The program opens the doors of the state-of-the-art laboratories at OARDC to young students in the community to explore various scientific careers options.
All selected students will receive stipends and certificates indicating their participation in the ORIP program as AgBioscience Summer Scholars. The students will also build a network of peers and scientists and experience that will set them apart from others for college applications and future career opportunities.
Interested students may learn more and submit an application by clicking the link marked Students. Interested OARDC faculty mentors may also learn more about the program and submit an application for matching funds to receive a summer AgBioscience Research Scholar in their laboratories by clicking the link marked Faculty.
