2009-09-18 - Research Awareness

Here is a funding opportunity available through the USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS) to help solve specific production and disease problems of the U.S. Potato Industry.

This year, the deadline for receipt of research plans is October 23, 2009.  Research proposals must be limited to two pages.  Other supportive information can be attached as appropriate or desired, but every effort should be made to have all pertinent information included in the two-page research plan.  If approved, funds are not to be used for permanent salaries of the P.I. or cooperators or for capital equipment items.  Expenses for travel are limited to $1,500.

As in previous years, ARS and State scientists as well as industry representatives will evaluate the proposals.  Evaluation criteria will include but will not be restricted to the following:

-Nature of the proposed research and the need of this research to solve production and marketing problems of the U.S. potato industry.
-National priority of the proposed research.
-Scientific expertise of the scientists involved and their training, experience, and accomplishments relative to specific areas of potato research.
-Appropriateness of the level of funding requested.
-Appropriateness of the research approaches identified for each specific research objective.
-Likelihood of success.
-Nature and quality of the Federal-State research partnership.
