The following is an example of an mapmaker data with comments in italics.

The actual data file will be a text file that looks like this:

Explanation

```
This line informs Mapmaker of the type of population you have. In your case this is a f2 intercross.

9 3 0
```
This line includes three variables the first is the size of the population (9 lines), the second is the number of loci classified (3), and the third is the number of quantitative variables measured (0). These numbers will be different for your population.

These lines are the actual data from the population. The marker name must begin with an *. The following explains how to score for the different type of inheritance (codominant or dominant).

Use the following F2 genotype codes for "Codominant" markers:

A = homozygote (AA) for a marker (A) derived from the female parent: Harosoy

B = homozygote (BB) for a marker (B) derived from the male parent: Williams

H = heterozygote (AB) for a marker derived from each of the parents.

- = missing data (dash) for a given marker in a given F2 individual.

Use the following F2 genotype codes for "Dominant" markers from Williams:

C = homozygote (BB) OR heterozygote (Ba) for a dominant marker (B) derived from the Williams male parent (DNA sample #2).
A = homozygote (i.e., aa) for a recessive marker (a) derived from the Harosoy female parent (DNA sample #1).

Use the following F2 genotype codes for "Dominant" markers from Harosoy:

D = homozygote (AA) OR heterozygote (Ab) for a dominant marker (A) derived from the Harosoy female parent (DNA sample #1).

B = homozygote (i.e., bb) for a recessive marker (b) derived from the Williams male parent (DNA sample #2).
