You are presented with the problem of finding a molecular marker that is linked to gene controlling resistance to Phytophthora root rot in soybean. Fortunately, a population has already been developed from a cross of Harosoy and Williams that is segregating for this resistant gene. You will have seed of the parents and 46 F2 plants that you can classify for Phytophthora reaction, 2 RFLP markers, and 2 RAPD markers. After you have classified this population you will need to determine which marker(s) are linked to the resistance gene and how closely they are linked.
